Patricia Lofton Hardaway, J.D., M.P.W. is Principal of The Lofton Cassell Group, providing expertise to organizations on effective governance, strategic and business planning, policy  formation and implementation, executive coaching and leadership development, talent acquisition, retention, and succession planning, managerial and supervisory training, building internal and external inclusion and diversity and conflict resolution. 

Dr. Hardaway is a respected attorney, former university president and administrator and corporate human resources executive. In her vibrant private legal practice, she represented corporate clients in traditional labor matters and complex employment discrimination litigation before the federal and state courts of New York, Connecticut and New Jersey.  Attorney Hardaway also guided and conducted regulatory related internal investigations for a major pharmaceutical corporation, where she provided legal and business operation advice to senior leaders in the corporate division as  well as manufacturing, research, and sales divisions in the US, Puerto Rico and Mexico.

Dr. Hardaway led Wilberforce University as its 19th President from July 2008 to December 2014; only the second woman to do so in the University’s then 152 year history. President Hardaway effectively led the University through the severe economic downturn that began in 2008: virtually eliminating a projected fy2009 deficit of $5 million in just seven months without resort to academic program elimination or faculty and staff layoffs; restructured an onerous, crippling and unpredictable debt repayment scheme; achieving, in 2010, crucial reaffirmation of accreditation from the North Central Higher Learning Commission; forging productive relationships with key stakeholders in government, business and the community; attracting STEM and other program grants and research partnerships with NNSA, NASA, DOE, EPA and private research groups; and launching the online, distance education program. Prior to joining the University administration, Dr. Hardaway served as a Wilberforce University Trustee, and was elected Board Chair in 2006 becoming the first and only woman Chair of the Board in the history of the University.

Ms. Hardaway’s career assuring college access and success for students spanned twenty five years at well respected research universities and liberal arts colleges including: the University Of Pittsburgh, Graduate School of Public And International Affairs; Rutgers University, the New Brunswick Provost’s Office; Fairleigh Dickinson University; and Chatham College. Dr. Hardaway served on the New York Theological Seminary Board of Trustees.

Dr. Hardaway earned her B.A. Degree from Wilberforce, the Juris Doctor Degree from the Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law and the Masters of Public Works Degree from the University of Pittsburgh, Graduate School of Public And International Affairs. In 2013, she was elected Chair of The Interlink Alliance, a consortium of eight colleges and Universities.  She served as Secretary of the Association of Independent Colleges and Universities of Ohio (AICUO) Board and as a Board member of the Greater Dayton Area Chamber of Commerce.  Dr. Hardaway is a Rotarian and a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. and a past member of The Links, Inc.  Dr. Hardaway is past President of the Camp NEJEDA Foundation, Inc. Board which sponsors a residential camp for children with diabetes.

Dr. Hardaway consults, speaks, and conducts workshops and seminars for governing boards, for-profit and not-for-profit organizations and businesses and professional business, industry and civic associations.
